Technology for good – every time our clients do business with us something good happens in the world

It is important to us, even (especially) during Covid to always give back when a client chooses to work with us.

It’s true a lot of us struggled during the last two years and, like a lot of others, to take our minds off our own problems we wanted to give back to people who have struggled their whole lives.

**To find out how it is guaranteed that the money goes to the people in need, please read on

So, we pledged a percentage of our turnover to motivate us to continue to grow so we can use our Technology, for good.

So, anyone that refers us business or anyone that works with us, we give something back on their behalf every time we collect payment.

This is made possible by being a member of B1G1 (Buy one, give one), they take all the hard work out of it by vetting and auditing the organisations we give to, to ensure every cent goes to the people in need, your membership is paid separately to B1G1 to cover admin costs.

In fact, for example, if you buy water as your impact and the organisation receiving the funds buys books instead that will be picked up in the audits, this is how carefully they monitor it.

We can even provide clients with Cert’s of gratitude via the B1G1 site to show them what impact they have made in the world just by doing business with us.

We know we are not alone in these efforts and would love to know what impacts you are passionate about.

Is it Environmental, Education, Equality, or at IDS we are VERY passionate about – preventing the sex trafficking of children (See Free To Shine link).

See our impact’s goal for this year in the comments also and let us know what they should be for the new financial year?

Thanks to Paul DunnMasami Sato, and the team at B1G1 for allowing us to be part of this great initiative.

  • Pitfalls to avoid when deciding on CCTV

Pitfalls to avoid when deciding on CCTV

At IDS, we often see commercial clients who do not have a properly designed electronic security system and are not future-proofed, which is important, especially when it comes to CCTV.

We see a lot of companies adding on to systems instead of upgrading where clients can create more operations efficiencies i.e., manage multi-sites off one platform that saves a lot more in the long run compared to the initial capital investment.

We see incorrect camera types being installed i.e., a camera does not have infrared for night vision, the wrong lens type for people identification, and the wrong angles/positions not capturing what is needed.

We also see Insufficient storage for retention times and not enough camera channels for future system growth.

    **What we recommend**

Talk to a certified installer, they should know what types of cameras are best suited for different areas, lenses etc to facilitate desired client outcomes.

Remember CCTV should be designed around your individual business’s outcomes and not a one-size-fits-all!

The right Video Management Software (VMS), with the right analytical camera or forensic software, should be selected to manage the video outputs e.g., it can scan hours of footage to find a person in a red jumper instead of spending hours doing it manually.

  • Access made easy

    Access made easy

Facility managers have a lot on their plate and ensuring that the building is secure is often one of their top priorities.

Unfortunately, many access control systems are outdated and difficult to manage, which can lead to security breaches.

If you or a facility manager you know are constantly complaining about…

😡No oversight of who is coming in and out of the building/s they manage…
😡Long, manual processes when it comes to updating access cards…
    😡Constantly failing intercoms…
😡Being locked into the same provider…

…or anything else access related, then it’s time to have a conversation about upgrading their Access Control System!

    Benefits include…

✅Increased Security – If something happens and security wants to investigate who did it, the Access Control back-office keeps track of every person who came in and went out of the area where it happened. This will help security create a list of suspects.

✅Increased Productivity – Many modern Access Control solutions are designed to not just control doors and gateways, but also things like high-speed barriers, turnstiles, motorised fences and parking gates.

✅Reduced Costs – Many digital Access Control solutions can be integrated with a wide range of third-party applications and solutions. This can help save money on energy costs for the site. For example, the most sophisticated facility management solutions can identify when different areas of the site need heating or cooling.

**At IDS Security we make Access Control easy! **

Our access control upgrades make it easy for facility managers to keep their buildings secure. With our remote access management system, managers can easily grant or revoke access from any internet-connected device.

To assist you when choosing to upgrade your access control system, see the comments link to download a free tip guide to the common pitfalls you need to avoid or contact us to tell us more about your site.

  • People shortages? 5 ways to use tech instead

People shortages? 5 ways to use tech instead

Save time and money during this time of people shortages and into the future.

Businesses now desperately need to streamline processes using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

***To find out 5 ways to reduce your reliance on people by using the right Electronic Security AI please read on

We believe that the businesses of the future will have the right blend of people and AI, removing the risk of human error when carrying out mundane tasks and that a machine can do quickly and accurately.

How does this apply to the world of Electronic Security?

Here are 5 ways to use Electronic Security AI to reduce or remove the need for human intervention:

    1.      SEARCHING CCTV SECURITY FOOTAGE
No need to go through hours and hours of security footage manually, using AI you can instruct your security system to find a person in a “red jumper” and audit their movements within minutes.

    2.      VIRTUAL PATROLS
We can perform an immediate full site check as a Virtual Patrols Tour via your CCTV when an alarm is detected. No waiting on patrols to arrive and also Police will attend a “Confirmed” events.

    3.      CHECKING CONTRACTOR’S PAPERWORK
Our contractor management connected with our access control will ensure that licenses, insurance and other paperwork are all up to date before granting electronic access to your building.

    4.      EXTRA EYES FOR THE NIGHT SHIFT
Production on manufacturing lines can be monitored with a skeleton staff at night, using AI within CCTV to detect and alarm the supervisor of a falling object or malicious tampering with goods.

    5.      OH&S MONITORING
Ensure team members remain compliant, CCTV can be programmed to detect when rules are broken and the report can be talked through at performance time i.e. walking too near a moving forklift.

How are you using tech to address people shortages in your Industry?

  • 6 Key Benefits of Virtual Patrols instead of sending patrol cars

6 Key Benefits of Virtual Patrols instead of sending patrol cars

Who wants to be woken up at 2 am when your business alarm goes off?

Also, do you want to save costs or rely less on management to answer that call out of hours if there’s a potential break-in at your commercial property?

Police won’t respond unless it’s a confirmed incident and the cost to dispatch a patrol car to confirm this each time can start adding up.

** Read on to discover the many benefits of using a Virtual Patrol when an alarm sounds especially late at night or early morning

    THE SOLUTION:

Our technology can do a full tour of all cameras and perform an immediate full site check as a Virtual Patrol Tour. All done within minutes of the alarm triggering.

No waiting for Patrols to attend, No delays in viewing the events and if needed can be passed to Police as a “Confirmed” event so it meets the National police response.

    SUMMARY – KEY BENEFITS:

RAPID RESPONSE – The control room views associated cameras on-site from the time that the alarm signal is received.

NOTIFY POLICE or other emergency services if video confirms a crime in progress, Police can be notified immediately.

FAST ACTION – intruder alarm received by the control room and keyholders can be contacted.

NO OUT OF HOURS CALLS if video confirms nuisance no further action is taken (eg. Notification of Keyholder).

REDUCES UNNECESSARY COSTS – eliminates Patrol attending site if not needed.

IMPROVED SAFETY – improved situational awareness, for lone workers or high-risk premises.

  • Don’t be held to ransom over YOUR camera or security codes

Don’t be held to ransom over YOUR camera or security codes

Recently we had a new client who wanted to change security company due to poor service, but their incumbent was holding them to ransom by refusing to give them their security codes.

Some security companies only give “user” access instead of “admin” access so you cannot log into CCTV, for example, and change the username and passwords or give it to another security company.

Top Tip: Before you accept a security quote, tell your security company that you require full admin access so your IT or Operations team can stay in control, that way if you need to change providers you can do it easily.

If you are struggling to get your security codes, please contact us for further advice, we are happy to help.

  • How our systems can help with cyber security

How our systems can help with cyber security

Most electronic security these days is network-based therefore it can have an adverse effect on cyber security if the wrong products are installed or if maintenance is neglected.

These are our tips to ensure you stay protected:

    1. Your security installer should carry out regular firmware updates to safeguard against cyber attacks

    2.   Avoid cheap mass-produced products that connect with your network i.e. via cameras

    3.   Ensure you use camera vendors that produce their own chips sets (the brains of the camera) so you are not more vulnerable to cyber attacks

    4.   Access control for your comms rooms is vital, you can then audit who goes in and out and prevent unwanted people from inserting USB directly into servers

    5.   Make sure you set strong passwords, often companies that install security leave default passwords for security systems that can be googled!

  • We services our cars, so why not our security systems?

We services our cars, so why not our security systems?

Many customers feel they are 100% secure by installing an alarm system in their business premises, but the reality is it’s just a loud noise without monitoring. Ask yourself when last did you alert someone when you heard an activated alarm? We have become immune to it, assuming perhaps it is a false alarm.

Also, with a growing number of burglaries in Australia carried out by persons under the influence of drugs, sometimes logic doesn’t prevail, and they can just ignore the loud noise and, even if there’s not much to steal, they can cause a lot of damage before you realise.

It does not have to be like this, from as little as $1 a day* you can get your business premises monitored by a certified control centre so you can ensure peace of mind.

Here are our Top 3 Reasons why a monitored alarm is very effective in protecting what matters most.

    1.     You can Protect your Premises while you sleep

When your Alarm is monitored you get around the clock protection 24/7, so while you sleep or you are overseas, for example, you know someone can respond to protect your business premises should there be an incident.

    2.     You can Protect your People in emergencies

Duress/Panic buttons can be used to alert the monitoring station to call the police should there be threatening behaviour on your premises to protect your staff members. We have seen an increasing number of incidents of violence at Hospitals, for example, and this is a cost-effective solution to negate these very real risks.

    3.     You can Protect your Profits

Not only does it protect your profits to respond to an incident before real damage is done, but you can also save money on the cost of Patrols by using a feature we offer called RVR (Remote Video Response) which allows the monitoring station to remotely connect to your surveillance system and provide an informed and cost-effective response based on their observations. Visually verified events enable a faster response.

    What can we offer you?

IDS Security has partnered with one of Australia’s leading providers of alarm monitoring and response service. The team can respond to alarm signals 24/7 from two ASIAL Certified Grade A1 monitoring centres, using the latest technology to monitor intruder, medical, fire, duress, and asset alarm triggers.
